Acceptable responses are:
- Responses that are appropriate to the question and that meet the requirements of the item, e.g., uses an appropriate grammatical form, or describes an item accurately.
- When specific vocabulary words are listed in the answer column, you should only score the student correct if he or she gives one of the correct answers that are listed.
- Variations of pronunciation are acceptable as long as the student’s response is comprehensible.
- Responses that are more extended than the expected response, as long as one of the expected responses is included in the student’s answer.
- Any of the responses when two or more answers are listed, all separated by slash marks (/).
- One-word responses when these are indicated as acceptable in the “Student responds/Respuestas correctas” column.
In the IPT Oral test booklet, some of the items have the question number circled. These test items refer to a picture from the corresponding book of Test Pictures. The circle around the item number alerts you that a picture is needed. Two or more test items enclosed within a bracket refer to one picture. The item numbers that refer to the picture are printed in the top left hand corner of the picture in the book of Test Pictures.
The spiral-bound book of Test Pictures is designed to stand on the triangular frame formed by the back cover. Pictures in the book are sequenced in the order that they appear in the test. You will work through the front-facing pages of the picture book first, then turn the book around and work through the back-facing pictures during the second half of the test. It is important to practice the use of the picture book before starting to test the students.
